Beginning My Homestead Journey 🌱🍅

Every year, I find new ways to rely less on our broken food system. The constant recalls and issues with food safety keep reminding me how essential it is to grow my own food and buy from local farmers who care about the land and the quality of their produce.

I’ve been practicing seasonal eating for a while now, and I’ve found that it’s made the transition much smoother. But, as with anything worth doing, it’s not without its challenges. I’ve had to pick up new skills along the way—and one of the most rewarding has been canning. It’s become my jam... literally! Preserving the harvest and filling jars with the season’s bounty brings a sense of fulfillment that’s hard to describe. Canning, pickling, and preserving are essential skills for anyone wanting to embrace a more self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle.

Gardening is going strong, and every time I harvest, it feels like a small victory. But it’s not just about the gardening; it’s about creating a more connected and sustainable life. Whether I’m canning fresh vegetables from the garden or making pickles to preserve summer flavors, I feel empowered knowing that I’m taking control of what I consume.
