Growing & Thriving! 🌱
My babies are officially passing the seedling stage and gearing up to produce! Watching them grow from tiny sprouts to strong, thriving plants has been such a rewarding experience. Learning to grow my own food has deepened my appreciation for the process, the patience, and the abundance that comes from a little effort and care.
Spring Garden Seeding & Early Sprouts 🌱
Finally, a break in the weather gave me a chance to prep my soil and plant a few more vegetables. I was excited to get my hands in the dirt, but I quickly realized I didn’t buy enough soil. Rookie mistake! About 80% of what I’m growing needs at least 12 inches of depth, so I had to get creative—redistributing what I had to one side of the bed until I can grab more.
Spring Garden Prep: Round Two
I’m gearing up for my spring garden, and this time, I’m switching things up! Instead of a full garden bed in the yard, I’m bringing the operation up to my balcony—three stories high.
Last spring, if you remember, Florida squirrels wiped me out. 😭 They feasted on my seedlings, dug through my soil, and left me with nothing but empty garden beds and broken dreams. This year, I’m hoping Texas squirrels have better manners. 🤞🏽
Volunteering at Westbury Community Garden
Today, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Westbury Community Garden in Southwest Houston alongside my girl Tezya.. The weather was a little chilly, but the energy and warmth of the people there made it feel just like home.
Why Farmers Markets Should Be Your Go-To for Fresh, Healthy Food
This past weekend, I linked up with my girl Tezya to visit Urban Harvest Farmers Market and as always, it was a reminder of why I love shopping at farmers markets. We’re both passionate about health and wellness, especially when it comes to where our food comes from.
Growing Your Own Culinary Herb Garden: Why It Just Makes Sense
I finally got around to setting up my culinary herb garden, and let me tell you—it’s long overdue! Fresh herbs are a staple in my kitchen. I use them in everything from cooking and herbal teas to my simmer pots. Since I run through them quickly, growing my own at home just makes sense.
Volunteering at Infinite Zion Farms: A Powerful Lesson in Community & Sustainability
Today, Kev and I had the dopest experience volunteering at Infinite Zion Farms Urban Community Farm. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Mr. Prince, who was not only an amazing guide but also a wealth of knowledge on agriculture, sustainability, entrepreneurship, environmental science, and farming techniques. His passion for the work they’re doing in the community was undeniable, and it made the experience even more meaningful.
